I got sick.

New York City while Pregnant

I traveled from CA to NYC at 17 weeks pregnant. I thought being in the 2nd trimester I would have had a great time and I did until the last couple of days. We went to New York the week of Thanksgiving so it was cold! I had an amazing time and it wasn’t too crowded, luckily. However, the traveling, the walking, the cold, it all got to me. I was dead about three days into the trip so the last few days were spent with family we were visiting. My throat was burning, I was coughing, runny nose, the chills, I had it all. Keep in mind everything is expensive in NYC & the sales tax is higher here. It’s hard enough to find medicine to take while pregnant and having to do it in the city makes it even harder, especially when you aren’t feeling well. Now whenever I travel while pregnant or with my baby I pack medicine. Better safe than sorry! Also, if you can fly into LGA it is so much better. It is much closer and the traffic isn’t as bad!

*There aren’t many public restrooms in the city

  • Day 1

We started off our morning with a cup of coffee from Ralph Lauren and headed to Liberty Bagels! Liberty bagels are so delicious! You can see the baking the bagels early in the morning and they have a wide variety of homemade cream cheeses. I had the asiago bagel with regular cream cheese. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

After breakfast took a stroll into Central Park. The Park is huge! The metro will be your best friend and a life saver if you are pregnant. From Central Park, we headed to Times Square to see what the hype was about. It was crowded to say the least. It was much like a shorter version of the Las Vegas Strip. New York City is so much more than Times Square!

If you are lucky and can grab some tickets, go to a broadway show. It really is a must! I recommend booking in advance for great seats and a better price. We waited until last minute so we didn’t get the best seats and one of the only shows not sold out was Chicago. This specific theater was very small and you are right on top of the person next to you. Being pregnant, not my favorite feeling. It didn’t help that masks were required at the time (2021). Before the show we ate at Tony Di Napoli and the food was amazing. The portions were big which I loved! This was pricier because it was in Times Square but convenietnly located near the theater.

We ended our night with some hot, fresh donuts from Krispy Kreme.

  • Day 2

We grabbed a late breakfast at The Wilson which was located inside of our hotel. It felt great to not have to rush out of the hotel so early in the morning. We hopped on the metro right to pier 36. This is a great photo op for the Brooklyn Bridge. You are able to get a picture of the entire Brooklyn Bridge without having to walk it. However, I had the bright idea to walk the bridge. Never again. A once in a lifetime experience for me!

Near this location, you can go to 9/11 memorial, China Town, Little Italy, Washington Square Park, Soho, etc. There is so much to do! I recommend walking so you don’t miss anything.

Our first pizza stop of the trip was Bleecker St. Pizza. It did not disappoint! They served pizza by the slice and had a rotation of fresh pizza. There was also a RESTROOM! This is rare in the city and when you’re pregnant or have kids, this is important!

Ended the night with a trip up The Empire State Building. I needed my Chuck and Blaire moment. The city is beautiful at night and quite a sight to see.

  • Day 3

Picked up some bagels bright an early from 34th bagels and more. I luckily was able to eat everything and didn’t have any aversions while pregnant.

We were ready for the day and hit Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, did some shopping on fifth avenue, got to see and go inside of Grand Central Terminal, and went to the Metropolitan Museum. All of these places were either near each other or on the way to each other.

We ended our night with a family dinner at Serafina Italian Restaurant Broadway. This is a very beautiful place inside. The sounds from the bustling streets are drowned out and the ambience is really nice. The service was excellent and food came out very quickly. The stubled on a rooftop bar that was kid friendly. The picture above was the bar which was 230 fifth. This bar had many photo ops and the views were incredible! It was free to get in and the drinks were decently priced ($15 for a margarita).

*This was the last night I was able to do any sightseeings. I started feeling sick so we mostly stayed in or visited with family.

Where we stayed in NYC

We stayed at the Inside Hotel. This hotel was very modern and had a nice view of the city. We were on the 11th floor and the view was beautiful! They had a restaurant at the hotel that was very chic. The main metro that takes you up and down the city was also a couple blocks up. Being close to the metro is very important and makes getting around super easy! We rarely had to switch trains which was nice! The receptionist at the hotel gave us water bottles each time we walked in which was nice! The room wasn’t huge, but for two people it worked great! I would stay here again and bring my baby!
